Hear from our team

Real voices from real therapists who work here.

TSMD is aligned with their values and treats staff as humans. I feel valued for who I am as a human as well as who I am as a therapist.

— Marlee, Therapist

The staff here are supportive and possess a wealth of knowledge and experience. The schedule is flexible and the working environment intentionally created to invoke warmth and inclusivity. The entire business model of this company is focused on supporting the clinicians as much as possible so we can do the hard work that we do.

— Jenn, Therapist

I feel a strong connection to those I work with and love that we are all celebrated as individuals. Supervisors see our strengths and help us grow in the directions we are passionate about.

— Whitney, Therapist

One of my favorite things about working for Trauma Specialists is our culture. I love our gatherings and our meetings. TS has been such a great place to work and everyone is always willing to jump in and help. It's a very comfortable place to work because we all work great together.

— Emily, Intake Lead

We don't just talk about values. Here's how we live them.

Trauma Specialists team members collaborating

Empowerment

We fund your EMDR training and year-long trauma academy. We create pathways for you to become a supervisor, trainer, or leader. We give you the tools, then trust you to use them.

Inclusion

We are actively anti-racist and LGBTQ+ affirming. Our team represents diverse backgrounds, approaches, and lived experiences. We create space for everyone to bring their full selves to work.

Courage

We tackle complex trauma cases, but never alone. Peer consultation, Trauma Specialists Training Institute, and clinical supervision mean you always have support when the work gets hard.

Humanness

Flexible schedules honor your life outside the office. We celebrate birthdays, share laughs, and create a culture where it's okay to not have all the answers. We're real people doing real work.

Excellence

Ongoing training, quality documentation standards, and a commitment to best practices. We're building something meaningful, and we want clinicians who care about doing great work.

Finding the right fit, together

We're looking for clinicians who will thrive here long-term. You're evaluating whether we're the right home for your career. This process is designed to help both of us get it right.

1. Apply

Submit your resume and tell us why you're interested. We review all applications within one week and reach out to candidates who seem like a strong fit based on experience, values alignment, and what you're looking for.

We respond to everyone, even if it's not a match.

2. Brief video interview

A 20 to 30 minute video conversation where we both get to ask questions. We learn about your clinical interests and what matters to you in a workplace. You learn about our expectations, culture, and whether this sounds like the kind of place you'd want to work.

A two-way conversation. We want to get to know you and you to get to know us.

3. Interview with the leadership team

We go deeper on your clinical approach, what you need to thrive, and how you handle challenges. This is also your chance to meet the people you'd be working with, ask the questions that matter to you, and get a real feel for who we are.

Virtual or in-person. Ask anything. We want to help you decide if this is the right fit.

4. Decision time

If we're both excited about the fit, we'll extend an offer with full transparency on compensation, benefits, expectations, and growth opportunities. Take the time you need to decide. We'd rather you be certain than rushed.

We'll answer your questions before you commit.

5. Welcome to the team

Once you join, we set you up for long-term success. Structured onboarding, enrollment in our Foundations Academy, EMDR training (if needed), mentorship, peer consultation, and a ramped caseload schedule so you can build confidence and momentum.

We're invested in your success from day one.

Total timeline: 2 to 4 weeks. We move thoughtfully but efficiently. When we find the right person, we don't drag our feet.

Questions you're probably wondering

The most common ones are below. Still have questions? Email us.

What licenses do you accept?

We hire Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW-C), Licensed Professional Counselors (LCPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFT), and Licensed Psychologists in Maryland. We also hire provisionally licensed clinicians (LMSW, LGPC) who need supervision hours.

Do I need to be EMDR-trained?

No. We provide complimentary EMDR Basic Training for all new clinicians who are not already trained. If you are already EMDR-trained, we offer refreshers and ongoing EMDR Circle consultation.

Do you hire new graduates or provisionally licensed therapists?

Yes. We hire provisionally licensed clinicians and provide clinical supervision to help you earn your hours toward full licensure. You will be supported every step of the way.

What is the expected caseload?

For full-time therapists, we typically expect 25 to 30 sessions per week (about 100 to 120 sessions per month). For Site Team Leads and Clinical Supervisors, caseloads are lower (around 25 sessions per week) to allow protected time for leadership responsibilities.

Are positions remote, hybrid, or in-office?

It depends on the role. Some positions are hybrid with routine on-site days (such as our Site Team Lead role in Frederick). Others offer more flexibility. We will discuss scheduling options during your interview.

What insurance panels do you work with?

We are in network with major insurance providers, and our billing team handles all credentialing, claims, and insurance coordination. You do not have to worry about the administrative side of insurance. See our insurance page for client-facing details.

Can I specialize in a particular area?

Yes. While we are a trauma-focused practice, many of our clinicians develop specializations such as complex PTSD, eating disorders, OCD, couples work, or other areas. We support your growth in the directions you are interested in.

What does "trauma-informed workplace" actually mean?

It means we train all staff in trauma, provide peer consultation and support, protect your time and boundaries, and approach challenges with curiosity instead of criticism. We practice what we teach about nervous system regulation, connection, and psychological safety.

What opportunities are there for advancement?

We promote from within. You can advance into clinical supervision, site leadership, training facilitation, or consultation roles. Many of our current leaders started as therapists here. We have a clear Clinician Career Path to help you see what is possible.

Our commitment to diversity and inclusion

At Trauma Specialists, we're on a mission to grow together with our clients, our team, and our practice while leading a movement of innovation in trauma treatment. We believe in empowerment, inclusion, humanness, courage, and excellence, and we welcome team members who share these values.

Our culture celebrates diversity in all its forms. We're committed to creating a workplace where every person feels valued, supported, and inspired to make a difference. We are actively anti-racist, LGBTQ+ affirming, and believe that our differences make us stronger as a team and as clinicians.
